Restoring Balance Consulting provides online trauma training seminars for community workers and wellness seminars for community members.
Restoring Balance Consulting has provided over 350 onsite workshops and online seminars, training community workers to enhance their learning on trauma, post traumatic stress disorder, healing and communication skills and providing healing/educational workshops to community members.
Restoring Balance Consulting has developed useful and practical resource material for various training and wellness workshops. Gerald has developed a Trauma Resource Kit to assist Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit and Metis community workers to be training in trauma informed care and trauma recovery.
Gerald Kiesman
Position
Gerald Kiesman’s ancestral background is, Haida from Old Massett, B.C and German, he was born and raised in Prince Rupert B.C, and now lives in Victoria, B.C. Gerald is well known and respected for his work with community workers and members throughout Canada.
From 1997 to 1999, Gerald voluntarily promoted awareness of the Impact of the Indian Residential School to the northern communities of British Columbia, he was in various local newspapers and on the regional television.
In 2000/2002 Gerald’s worked with Inter Tribal Health Authority on Vancouver Island as a North Island Outreach Worker, Gerald promoted the Tsa kwa Luten Healing Lodge programs at Quadra Island to the north Island communities. Gerald was also able to facilitate his first 10 Day mens healing program with residential school survivors from throughout B.C.
In 2003/2004 Gerald worked with the Nuu Chah Nulth Healing Project as a Victoria Support Worker, Gerald provided counseling, facilitated healing circles and assisted residential school survivors in returning back to the residential school grounds as part of their healing.
In 2005-2007, as a Resolution Health Support Worker, Gerald provided health support to over 150 Independent Assessment Process Hearings for the Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement throughout B.C. And provided health support at various residential school healing conferences.
In 2010. One of Gerald’s workshops was recorded in the community of Gitaanmax, B.C by CBC Newsreporters and was broadcasted on the first night of the Truth and Reconciliation Conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba on CBC National News. His work and personal life experience of healing and teaching have been shared in many media broadcasts. In the summer of 2010 Gerald raised awareness of Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder by cycling throughout British Columbia.
Gerald has earned a certificate in Professional Counseling, Level 1 Somatic Experience Trauma Counseling and is accomplished in training Therapeutic Re-Enactment and First Nations native healing ceremonies. He is the first Indigenous person to achieve the Level 12 Child Welfare Delegation training in Victoria, BC.,
2008/2009 Gerald obtained a diploma in Business Administration. In 2010 Gerald started his business Restoring Balance Consulting, since then Gerald has facilitated over 400 workshops throughout Canada and has been a keynote speaker at numerous conferences. He has provided trauma training to community workers, and health and wellness workshops to community members. Gerald has facilitated at numerous conferences and seminars.
In 2011, Gerald provided trauma training to Victim Service Workers with the National Parole Board and Correctional Services Canada, the Victim Service Workers were providing support to the family members of the Robert Pickton court case and Air India Bombing. In 2011, Gerald had the honor to be a guest speaker at the “Victims in the Aftermath of Sentencing” Forum with the Victim Advisory Council/National Parole Board/Correctional Services Canada.
With 16 years of research on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and western and traditional healing, Gerald has
developed useful and practical resource material (such as the “Trauma Healing Guide for Indigenous
People/The Trauma Informed Care Manual and Victims of the Past”) for his various training workshops and
online seminars, the resource material has been proven to be an important resource to assist Indigenous, First
Nations, Inuit and Metis people who have experienced trauma.
