My name is Gerald Kiesman; In March 1997, I started to heal a traumatic event I experienced, throughout my healing, I recognized that information on trauma in books and on the internet was written in academic terminology, i believed it was important to write a book about trauma in layman’s term and include basic healing exercises. In 2000, I started to develop the book.

Throughout 2000 to 2009, I completed a professional counseling course, somatic experience trauma training level 1, 2 and 3 and started to work in the field of providing support and counseling to survivors of trauma.

In 2010, I started a business “Restoring Balance Consulting” where I have facilitated over 300 workshops of trauma and post traumatic stress disorder to many community workers throughout western and central Canada and healing workshops to youth, adults and children and youth in foster care.

I have facilitated at numerous conferences and seminars and my work and personal life experience has been shared in many media broadcasts. In 2010 one of my workshops was broadcasted on CBC National News. In the summer of 2010 I raised awareness of post traumatic stress disorder by cycling throughout British Columbia.

With 16 years of research on trauma and post traumatic stress disorder I have developed a trauma healing guide that provides; an understanding of how imprints of trauma are developed in the mind and body, an understanding of post traumatic stress disorder and including healing exercises.

In the Trauma Healing Guide I provide an excellent view of how imprints of trauma are stored throughout the brain structure, nervous system, endocrine glands, immune system and muscles and organs. It is important to have knowledge of the mind and body components in healing trauma.

It is important to understand how imprints of the trauma can leave the brain stuck in the emotional brain and the body in the hyper-alert state after the trauma.

Understanding that during the trauma the brain is in a threat, harm or danger mode activating a pathway of connections with the hypothalamus, hippocampus, amygdala, nervous system, endocrine glands and muscles and organs to create an imprint of the trauma.

After the trauma is over the brain can still stay stuck in this mode of threat, harm or danger, or may have re-occurring memories when you have a flash back of the trauma.

When the brain is always in the threat, harm or danger mode, it prevents the ability to learn new tasks or process new information and also have an impact on developmental factors.

It is important to have an understanding of how hormones such as; adrenaline, cortisol, serotonin and dopamine play a key role in post traumatic stress disorder. When under stress the body may have a change to these hormones, which may cause sleeplessness, depression, aggression or may impact concentration ability.

Understanding how to control the nervous system after the trauma, when a person experiences flashbacks of the trauma it may activate the sympathetic nervous system to mobilize the body to the fight, flight or freeze, understanding how to use a trauma stress release exercise to de-activate the sympathetic nervous system and activate the parasympathetic nervous system to restore the mind and body back to a state of calmness.

The Trauma Stress Release Exercise will help to reduce, manage or eliminate stress from the trauma and/or chronic stress.

In healing trauma it is very important at the beginning of the healing to have an understanding of what trauma is and how it impacts the mind and body and when unresolved can cause post traumatic stress disorder, impacting his/her daily lifestyle and to have awareness of healing exercise to manage, eliminate, or reduce the stress from the trauma.

The trauma healing guide provides a clear understanding of trauma and provides healing exercises.

The Trauma Healing Guide is a valuable resource to trauma survivors, community workers working with trauma survivors, first responders, caregivers, foster parents, military personnel and veterans.
